Mathematics

Teaching focuses on examination success. This is achieved through the acquisition of knowledge, examination technique and thinking skills. The teachers are experts in their respective fields; they teach their students the information they need in the form that they need it.

Mathematics

Mathematics is the largest department in the college. Teaching takes place in small groups by experienced and enthusiastic teachers, who are all subject specialists.  Students are encouraged to work hard through regular setting of homework, and past paper practice.

We teach combinations of modules from Core Mathematics, Statistics, Mechanics and Decision Mathematics leading to AS and A-levels in Mathematics and/or Further Mathematics. The majority of our students take exams through the Edexcel examination board, but we also support students who are studying with the OCR, MEI and AQA boards.

We support students interested in taking STEP or AEA (Advanced Extension Awards) which are useful for entry into Mathematics undergraduate courses at the top universities.

We also encourage students to take part, every year, in the UKMT Maths Challenge and regularly have students who get through to the later rounds (the British Mathematics Olympiad).

As a college that focuses on mathematics, the sciences and economics, we offer an ideal environment for students who wish to pursue higher study and a future career in business and in the science-based professions.
